Jumpstart your weight loss in 21 days

I recently read the book  “Quantum Wellness Cleanse”  by Kathy Freston .  A friend recommended it to me but when I saw the word ”cleanse”, I had second thoughts about reading it.  I stongly disagree with the need for a “cleanse”.  However, I was pleasantly surprised and it is not the usual concept of a cleanse.  It is really quite simple, you abstain from all dairy, sugar, animal products, gluten, and caffeine and alcohol.  It is a 21 day program and it sounded healthy to me.  I rarely have caffeine, dairy or meat  in my diet now so I figured it would not be that difficult. I knew the  hardest  would be giving up  sugar and gluten.   However, it is only 21 days and you can do anything for 21 days if you want it badly enough.

The first week was a little difficult because I was still craving sugar and wheat but I persevered for the 21 days  and Read More→

When you’re in a hole, stop digging!

I love seeing signs that make you think. I saw a sign today that said “When you’re in a hole…stop digging” .  It made me think of one of my clients I was coaching who said she started off the day eating a cookie and it went down hill from there.

How many times have all of us gotten a little off track in the morning by eating that blueberry muffin.  However, instead of stopping there, the thought process is the day is now shot and you start thinking you might as well just let the train derail for the rest of the day.  You wake up the next morning and not only feel guilty for eating so much, but you feel lousy as your body is rebelling from eating so much junk.

Gluten free, organic at miPueblo Restaurant, Sarasota

For people with dietary requirements, eating out can be a challenge.  If you are a teen it is even more of a challenge. If you have a gluten allergy or Celiac disease, one always has to question the wait staff to determine what is “safe” to eat. If you want to eat only organic, a few restaurants are starting to offer it but choices are still limited.  Chain restaurants are not usually noted for their healthy offerings, but this is changing with the expanded menu from miPueblo. This restaurant has always offered healthy choices, but now they have gone a step further by offering organic, vegan and gluten free items to their menu.  Michelle Buice, co –owner, has always been an organic and raw food advocate.   Her goal was to introduce it to the main stream customer.

Four tips on teen wieght loss:

One of the best ways to start eating healthy is to start a food diary.  You can set it up to track your caloric intake, the time you are eating and why you are eating.  You can do this in as little as 3 days to get an idea of where your calories are coming from and how you are feeling when you eat. I have all my clients do this and they are amazed at the insight this gives them into their diet and why they are not at their ideal weight.

Find a friend to hold you accountable to your goals.  This can be in person or through the web.  By supporting and helping each other, you will both delight in achieving your dreams… Read More→

There’s how much sugar in that?

When you read a food label, do you skip over the grams of sugar because you don’t know how to make the conversion from grams to teaspoons?  Since grams measure weight and teaspoons measure volume, there is no universal formula.  However, 1 gram is approximately 1/4 teaspoon.

Therefore, a soda that has 40 grams of sugar has approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar.

Many health professionals think this is all you should have in one day.  I was coaching someone who was drinking one to two cans a day and couldn’t figure out why she was gaining weight.  After our discussion, she stopped drinking soda.
